Idaho Department of Fish and Game Comments Re: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Species Status Assessment for Ute ladies’-tresses (Spiranthes diluvialis)

Abstract:

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) received notice that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is initiating a Species Status Assessment (SSA) that will guide their evaluation and inform a 5-year review in accordance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA) to determine whether a change in listed status of Ute ladies’-tresses (Spiranthes diluvialis) is appropriate. Ute ladies’-tresses, a perennial herbaceous orchid, was listed as a threatened species in 1992 and is known to occur in eight western states and one Canadian province. To inform the SSA, the USFWS requested the latest scientific information on the species, including the topic areas listed below. In addition to location data for Ute ladies’-tresses in Idaho recently submitted by IDFG to the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database, we offer the following technical information in response to this request.
