Abstract:

This report is the first detailed assessment of range-wide population and habitat data for greater sage-grouse. Chapters examine conservation status and laws in provinces and states where the species occurs, population ecology and characteristics, habitat characteristics, sagebrush ecosystems, populations and population database, current status and trends of sagebrush ecosystems, greater sage-grouse genetics, effects of harvests on the species, predation and pathogens, monitoring habitats and populations, and anthropogenic impacts. A syntheses of the information is also provided, as well as appendices. The information and analysis included in the report can be used to monitor future population changes and responses to management activities. The authors hope that the information presented can now be the foundation for increasing our understanding of the ecology of sagebrush-dominated landscapes and species that depend upon them.
