Species Account:
June `10, spotted this roadkill Barn Owl on the shoulder of the highway between the city of Mountain Home and Mountain Home Air Force Base. Everything about the condition of the carcass said it had been struck just hours before by a vehicle headed to the city. No flies were yet present and even the visible blood was still fresh. I found the carcass at 1305. I'd been expecting to find a roadklill Barn Owl almost from the day I moved here in lagte 2014 from Vermont. My background: Retired Air Force lieutenant colonel; a former president of trhe Pa. Society for Ornithology; a former volunteer for the federal Breeding Bird Survey (ran two routes in Pa. for 15 years).
