Species Account:
Large bodied doe, found in grass across from corn field early this morning. (Was walking the dog, technically the dog found it!). Looks like it was pulled off the road and dumped back by the river, judging both by the distance from the main road (Plaza) and the drag marks from the dirt road to where she was in the sage brush (50~ ft from dirt road). Both back legs severely broken, stomach burst from impact. Lots of bruising and skid marks. One side of ribs crushed. Both front legs and shoulders in tact, head undamaged. Body was partially frozen, minimal fly eggs in ears, unhatched, implying the deer likely died night before last, eggs were probably laid yesterday afternoon. Unbruised meat was still fresh, firm, and frozen. Deer had corn in stomach, was well muscled and had ample fat. I processed the salvageable meat for dog food.
