Species Account:
Went out to the road to get the mail out of the mail box (Lakeshore Drive) and heard a loud "thump". Fawn ran across the road in front of a couple of vehicles. No one observed a doe. Dark outside. They stopped and checked if the deer was okay or not, and if damage to their vehicle. Fawn was dead and broken legs on one side. Driver said it went high enough he was afraid it was going to go thru his windshield, but luckily it didn't. Vehicle drivable. Neither driver wanted to bother with such a small animal. Asked if we could salvage it and they agree and helped drag the animal off the road. There are numerous deer: buck, does, fawns crossing the road often. The white tailed deer graze in fields on both sides of the road. All of Lakeshore Drive is over-populated with deer and dangerous to drive - especially in the dark.
