Species Account:
I approached a stopped car ahead of me on Cartwright Road that had pulled over and when I drove around it I saw the bobcat on the road. As a naturalist guide I have studied these beautiful animals and knew immediately it was a bobcat due to its size, face, ear tufts, and variable coloring, spotted with black bars on the front legs. I also stopped on the side of the road and got out to see if I could help. The bobcat was still alive, laboring to breathe. No visible lacerations but obvious head trauma as the eyes were off. The driver of the vehicle that struck the bobcat was visibly upset. I offered to take the cat to a rehab facility as I have some experience doing so with other species. The other driver thought it a good idea so I wrapped the bobcat in a blanket from the back of my car and drove home where I planned to immediately contact the rehab facility. The cat expired in the car. I put its body in a bag and in my freezer.
