Species Account:
While hunting in the Nut basin area, near Riggins my sons and I observed a large Grizzly bear coming down the trail straight at us. When the bear came into near proximity I began to holler and yell at the bear. The bear continued to move closer to us and began to demonstrate signs of a charge, I drew my rifle and continued to scream at the bear, he approched to within 15yds when I instructed my oldest son to fire his rifle into the air. When he did this the Bear turned and slowly walked away. I spend 5 months a year in Alaska and have observed countless Brown, Grizzly, and Black bears. I have photographed them all, this was a mature male Grizzly bear, and he was not afraid of humans.
