Species Account:
The doe is young and has IDFG tags in her ears so I'm guessing she's a doe that IDFG was tracking. I did not hit this deer with my vehicle but whoever did must not have been more than 15 or 20 minutes ahead of me on 93 between INL and Butte City. As I was coming home from Pocatello at about 8:00 AM I saw the dear in the road so I stopped to get it out of the road for other drivers. Her body was still warm so she must have been hit very recently before I saw her. Because her body was still warm, I picked her up from the road and put her in the bed of my pickup then called the Butte County Sheriffs office to ask what I should do.
I can see now from just having moved her in the bed of the pickup that her back end is split open. It looks like whatever vehicle hit her must have clipped her back end. I'm not sure how much of the rear quarters may be urine contaminated. The fore quarters and most of the backstrap should be OK though for salvage as will most of the hide be.
I have notified Mr. Josh Leal after obtaining his telephone number from our Sheriffs Dept. and have his permission to salvage what I can. Most importantly I want you folks to have the ear tag numbers though to aid your tracking.
