Species Account:
Found carcass while hunting deer in 55 (Rose Creek South of Albion) on 10/18/2014. This was our first time hunting during the season. Brushing an aspen grove for my son when I came across a bull moose carcass. Decay process had started as evidenced by the smell and magots. Carcass had not been opened up that I could see. No other visual external wounds were obvious on the upward facing side. I took a couple pictures and continued our deer hunt... On 10/22/2014 I called the F&G office in Jerome and asked if a salvage permit was required to retrieve antlers from a carcass - the answer was "yes". On the afternoon of 10/25/2014 I returned to the carcass and took additional pictures which showed significant predator/scavenger activity. Eyes and soft tissue areas had been removed/opened up and most of the hair had been removed. Again I did not observe any external wounds that may have contributed to the death of this animal. I removed the antlers at that time and have them in my possession.
