Nonresident Hound Hunter Information / Application

2024 Permit Application Period: November 15 to December 1, 2023

NEW Information:

We’ve made it easier to apply for a nonresident Hound Hunter permit!

Hunters can now submit their applications online at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com. Log in or create an account, and then select the “Apply for Controlled Hunt” tile at the top of the home screen. Enter the desired Hunt Number (which can be found on the application linked below or in the area details at the bottom of this page), and continue through the checkout process. A confirmation email will be sent to the email saved to the account once the application has been submitted.

Applications may also be sent to the Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters office via email or by mail. Applications must be received no later than December 1. A reminder that license and permit fees are no longer required when submitting an applicationAny fees received with the application will be returned to the applicant and will not be used for the purchase of any permit or license.

Once the drawing has completed, applicants will be notified of their draw status via email, if an email address is on file. Applicants can also view their application status by logging into their account at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com. Successful applicants can also purchase their permit and required hunting license.log through their online customer account.

To quickly receive your draw status notifications, be sure to create your GoOutdoorsIdaho.com customer account, and add your email address to your profile.

Options to Apply:

  1.      Log in or create an account at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com.
    1.      Click the “Apply for a Controlled Hunt” tile at the top of the home screen.
    2.      Enter the desired Hunt Number (which can be found on the application linked below or in the area details at the bottom of this page).
    3.      Proceed through the checkout process and complete the application submission.

      OR

  2.      Submit the application to the IDFG Headquarters Office via email or by mail.
    1.      If submitting via email or by mail, be sure to locate or create your Sportsman ID number which is on your GoOutdoorsIdaho.com customer account.
    2.      Download the 2023 Nonresident Hound Hunter Application and fill in all required fields.
    3.      Send by email to licenses@idfg.idaho.gov, OR
    4.      Send by mail to:

Applicants may apply with a partner; only one application per person or group will be accepted.

A second choice is optional.  Single or group applications that are unsuccessful for their first permit choice will be entered into a second choice drawing automatically, provided the second choice permit applied for has not been filled.

If you are successful in drawing a Hound Hunter permit, you will be notified, and can then purchase your hunting license and Hound Hunter permit online at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com, by phone at 1-800-554-8685, at any Idaho license vendor, or any IDFG Regional Office.

Applications that are received after December 1 will be declared void and will not be included in the drawing.

This hunt area is defined as that portion of unit 17 South of the following boundary: Beginning at the junction of the Unit 17 boundary and Forest Service Trail 24, then west along Forest Service Trail 24 to the Selway River, then north along the Selway River to Forest Service Trail 40, then southwest along Forest Service Trail 40 to Forest Service Trail 3, then west along Forest Service Trail 3 to the Unit 17 boundary.

 

Any permits not drawn will be available as leftovers on a first-come, first-served basis beginning December 15 at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time, online at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com, by phone at 1-800-554-8685, at any Idaho license vendor, or any IDFG Regional Office.
