Magic Valley Steelhead Hatchery is located in Twin Falls County, seven miles Northwest of Filer in the Snake River Canyon.

Driving Directions

Traveling east on I-84, take the State Highway 93 exit (Twin Falls Exit). Turn right on Highway 93 and proceed south until you reach Pole Line Road ( second traffic light as you enter Twin Falls). Turn right on Pole Line Road and proceed in a westerly direction approximately ten miles to road 2000E. Turn right on 2000E and proceed in a northerly direction towards Magic Valley Steelhead Hatchery. 2000E will appear to end at the south edge of the Snake River Canyon. Continue on this road down a gravel-surfaced grade to the hatchery

Location Facts

The hatchery consists of an incubation area and early rearing room containing 20 rearing containers, 32 large outside raceways, and two large settling ponds. When available, the hatchery can use a maximum 125 cubic foot per second (cfs) of 59° F water from Crystal Springs, located on the North shore of the Snake River.

Location Things to Know

Steelhead trout is the primary species produced at Magic Valley Hatchery. The goal of the hatchery is to rear approximately  1.5 million smolts to 8.3 inches for a total of 330,000 pounds annually. The majority of Magic Valley's production is for the purpose of sustaining steelhead trout runs in the Salmon River and its tributaries. A resident species fry/fingerling program operates during the months of January and February producing small fish for transfer back to Hagerman State Hatchery.

The hatchery is open to visitors year-round from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Guided group tours can be arranged by phoning (208) 326-3230.
