Panhandle Proposals for 2013 Big Game Seasons

Panhandle Region

White-tailed Deer
- Increase tags from 250 to 300 in Extra Antlerless Controlled Hunt in Unit 1 and change hunt boundary to “private lands”.  Increases opportunity and addresses depredation/landowner concerns.

Mule Deer
- No changes proposed.

Elk
- Increase tags in Either Sex Controlled Hunt in Unit 3 from 200 to 300 tags.  Allows additional opportunity and addresses depredation/landowner concerns.
- Increase tags in Either Sex Controlled Hunt in Unit 5 from 200 to 300 tags.  Allows additional opportunity and addresses depredation/landowner concerns.
- New Controlled Hunt for Antlerless Elk on private lands in Unit 3, 50 tags.  Addresses depredation/landowner concerns.

Black Bear
- Increase harvest in Units 7 and 9 to help reduce summer predation on elk calves.

Mountain Lion
- Increase harvest in Units 7 and 9 to help reduce predation on elk, and increase opportunity for hound-hunting lions.

Gray Wolf
- No changes proposed


DEER CONTROLLED HUNT AREA DESCRIPTIONS:
1X – That portion of Unit 1 in Boundary County on and within one mile of private land. For the purpose of this hunt, “private land” does not include corporate timberlands.

 

ELK CONTROLLED HUNT AREA DESCRIPTIONS:
3-1 – That portion of Unit 3 on and within one mile of private land.
5-1 – All of Unit 5.
