2014 Sage-grouse Season Proposals

Opportunity for public comment: July 15 - August 5, 2014.

2014 sage-grouse lek data indicate that most populations could be hunted at the “Restrictive” level, as defined in the 2006 Conservation Plan for the Greater Sage-grouse in Idaho.  To read the plan please visit http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/wildlife/sageGrouse/ [opens in a new window].

 

Idaho Fish & Game is proposing two options for the 2014 sage-grouse season: 
Option A no change from the 2013 season.
Option B would add a new closure for parts of Bannock, Cassia, Oneida and Power counties (see striped area on map).  Males at leks in this area have declined 53% since 2011.

Option A:  no change from 2013 season

  • Area 2 - Open Restrictive Season: Seven-day, one-bird daily limit, September 20 through September 26.
  • Area 1 - Closed Season: East Idaho Uplands area in southeastern Idaho; Washington and Adams counties; Eastern Owyhee County and western Twin Falls County; and Elmore County.

 

Option B:  see map for new closure.

  • Area 2 - Open Restrictive Season: Seven-day, one-bird daily limit, September 20 through September 26.
  • Area 1 - Closed Season: East Idaho Uplands area in southeastern Idaho; Washington and Adams counties; Eastern Owyhee County and western Twin Falls County; Elmore County;  Bannock County west of Interstate 15, Cassia County south of Interstate 86 and east of Interstate 84, Oneida County north and east of Interstate 84, and Power County south of Interstate 86.
    Option B adds the new closure in parts of Bannock, Cassia, Oneida and Power counties.
