Directions: I-90 Exit #43; N on Coeur d’Alene River Rd 2 mi; R (E) on Old River Rd (this loops back W over Coeur d’Alene River Rd and crosses river); N on Old River Rd 4 mi; at stop, R on FR 209 to re-cross river; 0.1 mi farther to stop sign; R (S) onto Coeur d’Alene River Rd to finish loop. Near Enaville, park at bike trailhead and walk west along trail.
Description: Look for White-crowned and Fox Sparrows, Tundra Swan, Varied Thrush, Yellow Warbler, Warbling Vireo, Willow Flycatcher, Western Wood-Pewee, and Bullock’s Oriole. Brushy slopes yield MacGillivray’s and Orange-crowned Warblers, Western Tanager, and Chipping Sparrow. Western Flycatcher and Northern Rough-winged Swallow nest on rock faces. In winter, chickadees, nuthatches, kinglets, and often Downy Woodpecker or Brown Creeper. Common Merganser and Belted Kingfisher year-round.
