Abstract:

There is little available in the way of complete or modern lists of Idaho terrestrial or freshwater mollusks, and no state or even regional guidebooks exist. With this document, the author collects known information about mollusks in Idaho. It includes results from visits the author and E. J. Johannes made to about 1,000 sites from 1988–1998, along with results of literature reviews and visits to museum collections. The names for all land and freshwater mollusk species known to occur in Idaho are collected in Tables 1 & 2. Origins, divisions, and biogeography are then discussed for each type (terrestrial and freshwater) of mollusk; terrestrial mollusks are discussed by major region in the country and freshwater mollusks by major drainages in the western region. Individual species discussions follow, including for introduced (nonnative) species. The document has a glossary, as well as two lengthy appendices: a key to some sensitive species and a large list of sites where mollusks were found.
