Salmon Region Fishing Report

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Updated: November 28, 2011

This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers.

Winter is upon the region and fishing opportunities are becoming fewer as waters cool and fish hunker down for the season.  With water temperatures of 34 – 36 degrees, steelhead fishing has slowed down considerably on the Salmon River.   Colder daytime temperatures are causing ice to form in some parts of the river.

Ice fishing will become a possibility as area lakes and ponds freeze over for the winter.  Be cautious when heading on to early ice.  Wait until the ice is at least 4 – 6 inches thick before venturing out to do some ice fishing.  Be cautious of ice that has gone through freezing and thawing cycles which can happen early in the season as well as in late winter.  Remember to bundle up so you and your family can enjoy their ice fishing trip.

Don’t forget to check the tackle shop nearest to your fishing destination for fishing information and equipment.
