The Upper Snake Region consists of Butte, Jefferson, Madison, Teton, Fremont, Clark, Bonneville and part of Lemhi, Custer, and Bingham counties. Big game hunt units include 50, 51, 58, 59, 59a, 60, 60a, 61, 62, 62a, 63, 63a, 64, 65, 66, 67 and 69. The regional office is in Idaho Falls.

The Upper Snake Region contains incredibly diverse landscapes including high elevation sagebrush deserts, sand dunes, mountain peaks over 12,000 feet, dense pine, fir, and spruce forests, and many crystal clear streams and rivers. This region is the western gateway to Yellowstone National Park and Teton National Parks. Consequently, the region hosts a diverse list of fish and wildlife species and many opportunities for outstanding outdoor recreation.

The region’s major city, Idaho Falls, is often touted as one of America’s best places to live due in part to the excellent hunting and fishing opportunities located nearby. Anglers come from far and wide to experience trout fishing in some of the most pristine waters in the United States including Henrys Lake, the Henrys Fork and South Fork of the Snake Rivers. Big game hunters  find healthy populations of elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, moose, and antelope. Bird hunters enjoy sharp-tailed grouse, sage-grouse, gray partridge, and plentiful waterfowl hunting.  The region’s diverse habitats provide outstanding opportunities for visitors to see many different wildlife species.
