Two Positions Available:
- One position for Oct 15, 2014 – May 31, 2015. Salary: $12.31/hr. plus benefits
- One position for Dec 1, 2014 – April 30, 2015. Salary: $12.31/hr.
Work as part of regional fisheries crew consisting of 1 to 3 people conducting various field projects and fishery surveys on streams, lakes, and alpine lakes in the Panhandle Region. Sampling methods will include hoop netting for burbot on the Kootenai River and may include other duties such as gillnetting sturgeon and electrofishing trout. This person will be expected to lead sampling events when the biologist is not present. Additional responsibilities include data entry and equipment maintenance. Work consists of a 40-50 hour week, Monday through Friday, with some night and weekend work required. Some duties require extended stays overnight in remote locations.
College coursework toward BS degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Biology, or related field is preferred. Applicants should have some knowledge of: life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species; operating a boat and outboard motor, recording field data, and using programs such as Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel. Although experience diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems with outboard motors or generators is not required, it is preferred. Extended travel may be required at times to remote locations for fish sampling operations. The applicant MUST be able to legally enter Canada, meaning that the applicant must not possess felony convictions within the past 5 years. These positions will involve working in cold, inclement weather conditions for up to 10 hours per shift possibly lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60-80 pounds for short distances. Successful applicants need to possess excellent independent decision-making skills as well as pay close attention to sampling and data analysis details.
