Area Description

Beginning at the trailhead on Mahogany Creek (Forest Service Road 118; Sec. 16, T10N, R23E, BM); then up Mahogany Creek and over the pass into Rock Creek Basin and the north face of Borah Peak and return. The above area includes public lands in the mahogany Creek and Rock Creek drainage inclusive of the following: Sections 24, 25, 35, 36, T10N, R22E, BM; Sections 1 and 2, T9N, R22E, BM; and Sections 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 30, and 31, T10N, R23E, BM. Area Description

These activities will be conducted as progressive travel camps along the Magruder Corridor from Nez Perce Pass on the West Fork District, Selway Bitterroot National Forest, to its junction with County Road #22, 0.5 mile south of Red River Ranger Station. Outfitter will also incorporate use of FS Road #285 from its junction with FS Road #486 to Green Mountain Lookout; FS Road #234 from the Red River Ranger Station to the Red River Hot Springs; and FS Trails #541, #504, and #505.

Half day and overnight backpacking side trips may occur into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness and Gold Pan Lake, Salmon Mountain, and FS Trail #575, Sheep Hill. Developed campgrounds area not authorized for use.

Activities may be conducted on private property known as the Hayden Creek Ranch, located between Hayden Creek and Little Sawmill Creek, and on Salmon-Challis National Forest Service lands and Bureau of Land Management property situated northwest of Hayden Creek and south of Basin Creek on which the Tonsmeire’s hold grazing allotments. NOTE: This approval does not include any hunting or game packing authorization, nor any approval for fishing on McNutt Lake or Buck Lake.
