Area Description

The majority of activities will focus on the Lewis/Clark Trail in the Clearwater National Forest. Trail/Road #5670 from Lolo Pass to Beaver Ridge turn off on Highway 12. All activities conducted on Trail #500 will begin from Papoose Saddle and end at Canyon Junction. Additional trails off of Trail #500, such as #85, Wendover Ridge, the trails to Sinque Hole Camp, Indian Grave, Lonesome Cove Camp, and Spirit Revival Ridge. Additionally, Road #588 Horseback Lake, #560 Liz Butte, and #557 Weitas Butte. (Kelly Creek, Lochsa, and Powell Ranger District National Forest Map, Map #5)[F&G Unit 12]

Trails to Sinque Hole Camp, Indian Grave, Lonesome Cove Camp, and Spirit Revival Ridge, will be used for backpacking/day hikes. Additionally, Road #588 Horseback Lake, #560 Liz Butte, and #557 Weitas Butte, will be utilized for side trips and vista points.

The following activities are authorized in conjunction with the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Celebration and are temporary in nature.

Day-use van tours may be conducted on the west end of the limited access area (Saddle Camp to Weitas Butte) and may extend into the western portal area.

Day-use van tours may be conducted on the east end of the limited access area (Papoose Saddle to Saddle Camp) and may extend into the eastern portal area.

Overnight van tours may be conducted on the entire length of the limited access area and may extend into portal areas.

Mountain bike tours may be conducted along the entire length of the limited access area and may extend into portal areas.

Day use mountain bike, van and bus tours may be conducted on the Clearwater National Forest, and may include short day hikes in portal areas.

Walk and ride-along interpretive tours may also be conducted in the above described areas.
