Camas Prairie Centennial Marsh Wildlife Management Area

Access: May dry up in late summer/early fall. Snow may limit vehicle access. Access free of charge.

Directions: WEST ENTRANCE: I-84 Exit #95; US 20 NE for 45 mi to Hill City; watch for WMA sign; R (S) onto Swamp Rd; go ~4 mi to T intersection (Stokes Rd); L (E) and go until rd curves N; L on rough road into center of marsh; EASTENTRANCE: 8.7 mi W of Fairfield on US 20, look for WMA signs near Wolf Ln (900 W); L (S) onto Wolf Ln to sign; R (E) on 500 S to marsh.

Description: Camas Creek is filled bank to bank from April-June and is dry by mid-July. An incredible purple camas lily bloom begins in late May and generally peaks about mid-June. During this time, thousands of waterfowl (Canada Goose, Mallard, Northern Pintail, Canvasback, Gadwall, Northern Shoveler, American Wigeon, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Cinnamon, Green-winged, and Blue-winged Teal), shorebirds (Killdeer, Long-billed Curlew, Willet, Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, Wilson’s Snipe and Phalarope, Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted and Least Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitcher), and other waterbirds (Eared and Pied-billed Grebe, American Coot, Sora, American Bittern, Sandhill Crane, Black-Crowned Night-Heron, Snowy Egret, Black Tern, Ring-billed and California Gulls) use the area.
