Description: Moscow is the gateway to the Palouse and the western foothills of the Clearwater Mountains (Moscow Mountain). Birding can be productive around Moscow all year. Winter birding is excellent for Rough-legged Hawk and Gray Partridge in fields around Moscow. Migratory songbirds move through town from April-May and Sept-Oct. Some neighborhoods and UI Campus (Great Horned Owl) can be quite good for migrants at times. Look for mountain ash trees for flocks of Cedar Waxwing. An occasional Blue Jay can be seen in winter.
