Directions: From Coeur d’Alene, travel E, US 95 S to mp 421.4 (“Sportsman’s Access” sign); L (E) onto Putnam Rd (curves N) for 0.6 mi; E on Tall Pines Rd for 0.7 mi to T intersection. TWO CHOICES: 1) L on S Tall Pines Rd for 0.2 mi; R into Sportsman’s Access area. 2) R onto Loffs Bay Rd and travel S around the bay; as you round the bay and start up hill, park at a pull-out and trailhead on the L and hike 100 yards to viewing platform.
Description: Red-necked Grebe are present all year and breed in summer. American Redstart are in the cottonwoods off Loffs Bay Rd in June/July. Red-eyed Vireo breed in the cottonwoods as well. Pygmy Nuthatch are found in the ponderosa pine stands. Nesting Bald Eagle and Osprey. Common Loon found in spring and fall. Checklist available at site.
