Site Location

Directions: HEART OF MONSTER NEZ PERCE HISTORIC SITE: from Kamiah, US 12 S; 2 mi S of Clearwater Bridge turn W off hwy to site. FISH HATCHERY: at junction of US 12/ID 13 in Kooskia, take ID 13 S; after crossing the Clearwater River, go E on Broadway Ave through the residential area; rd becomes Clear Creek Rd; hatchery is 1.5 mi outside of town.

Description: HEART OF MONSTER: From the parking area, go W 60 yards to a small maintenance shed. A mowed grass trail starts at the shed and goes N along an oxbow. Watch for Wood Duck, Osprey, Gray Catbird, Cedar Waxwing, and Bewick’s Wren. At the cottonwoods, look for Western Wood-Pewee, and Warbling and Red-eyed Vireos. FISH HATCHERY: Walk along the Looking Glass Mill Pond trail which is directly across from the Hatchery entrance.
