Weekly Fishing ReportUpdated: September 25, 2009This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers. Henrys Lake: The unseasonably warm weather has caused the water temperatures to climb and slowed down the bite. Anglers are still doing well near the mouths of tributaries. Cooler fall weather in the coming weeks will start the fish moving again, and the angling success should pick up. Look for fish near the north shore, county boat dock, state ramp, and the Pintail Point area. Given this year's catch rates so far, the fall should be great! Try leach patterns in the shallow areas. Island Park Reservoir: Few reports are coming from the reservoir. Angling should start to improve near the dam area as fish stage for the fall. Rainbows up to five pounds are commonly caught during this time of the year, and light angling pressure is an added bonus. Try trolling or bank fishing on points exposed by lower water levels. Island Park rainbows feast on crawfish this time of the year. South Fork Snake River: Fishing continues to be good, but success has dropped slightly from where it was a few weeks ago. Morning and evenings are best. Try fishing streamers or bead heads for the best action. Henrys Fork Snake River: Bead heads seem to be producing the most fish, although blue winged olives can be found occasionally, especially on cloudy days. Try streamers or wooly buggers in the lower reaches for larger fish. Sand Creek Ponds: The recent cooler evenings should help fishing on the Sand Creek Ponds (Sand Creek WMA). Anglers should look for fish around inlets and springs and seeps. A worm/marshmallow combination or spinner could entice one of the large trout that reside in these ponds.
