The Grace Hatchery is located in the South East corner of Idaho approximately 8 miles South of the town of Grace. To find us take highway 34 seven miles South from Grace, through Niter and turn left on to Fish Hatchery Road. Travel approximately two miles on Fish Hatchery Road and turn right to head down to the Hatchery. Once you get one mile past Niter just follow the brown signs.
Site Overview
The Grace Fish Hatchery was built in 1946. The hatchery's water supply comes from 2 freshwater springs, which are the source of Whiskey Creek. The hatchery has 3 houses with 3 year round employees and 1 summer temporary employee to perform the hatchery mission. We have 16 vats inside our hatch building for incubating eggs and rearing fry. Outside we have 16 small raceways and 4 medium raceways for rearing fingerlings, and at the lower end of the hatchery we have 6 large raceways in which we rear our catchable sized fish.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. We give organized tours on request (call for appointment), and there is almost always someone at the hatchery that can answer questions. We have public restrooms, a shaded picnic area, and access to fishing on Whisky Creek which gets stocked throughout the fishing season with rainbow trout. Whiskey creek flows through private property so please respect this access to fishing opportunity.
Species Production
The Grace Fish Hatchery program is funded through fishing and hunting license sales. Our primary mission is to stock Southeast Idaho lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams with fish for public use. We also raise fish for other areas of the state as needed. The majority of our fish production is sterile Rainbow Trout. We also rear reproductive Rainbow Trout, three different kinds of Cutthroat Trout, Lake Trout, and Splake.
