Visiting Tex Creek WMA

Visiting Hours - Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area is open year-round and has no established visiting hours. Schools and other groups are encouraged to visit Tex Creek WMA. Those interested in a WMA guided tour should call well in advance of the proposed trip date. IDFG personnel will make every effort to accommodate group trips.

Access for the Disabled - For persons with disabilities, access within Tex Creek WMA varies by area. Visitors with special needs are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel to determine which area(s) are most suitable for physically-challenged visitors. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering Tex Creek WMA.

Vehicles/Parking - Use of motorized vehicles, including ATVs, is permitted only on designated roadways shown on this brochure map. These restrictions protect area vegetation, reduce erosion, minimize wildlife disturbance and improve hunting experiences and success. Please park only in designated areas. Roads in the Tex Creek area can become extremely slick even after a brief summer shower. Prolonged moisture can make roads impassable for days. Check weather conditions before venturing into the Tex Creek Area.

Area Restrictions - Portions of Tex Creek WMA are closed seasonally to protect wintering elk and mule deer from human disturbance. Motorized travel is prohibited in these areas from December 1 through April 15. Watch for these areas and make your conservation contribution by respecting area closures.

Wildlife Observation/Photography - Visitors are welcome to hike throughout the area for wildlife viewing and photography purposes. Many farm roads have been converted into excellent hiking trails. To enhance your outing, a bird species checklist is available at the IDFG regional office in Idaho Falls.

Hunting - Hunting is allowed on Tex Creek WMA, but specific rules and access to some WMA locations may change from year to year. Consult current hunting rules for more details.

Camping - Overnight camping is permitted in designated areas for no more than ten consecutive days within any 30-day period.

Fires/Firewood Cutting - Fires are allowed in designated areas only and may be prohibited during periods of wildfire danger. Firewood cutting is prohibited on Tex Creek WMA lands. Removal of materials such as rocks, soil and vegetation from their natural setting is prohibited.

Pets/Livestock - Pets must be leashed or under close control at all times on Tex Creek WMA, with the exception of bird dogs during hunting seasons. The release or abandonment of domestic or exotic animals on Tex Creek WMA is prohibited.
