Visiting St. Maries WMA

Visiting Hours: St. Maries WMA is open year-round. There are no established visiting hours and access areas are open 24 hours daily. Visitors are encouraged to protect the habitat by not littering or removing forest products.

Access for the Disabled - For persons with disabilities, access within St. Maries WMA varies by area. Visitors with special needs are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel to determine which areas are most suitable for physically challenged visitors. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering St. Maries WMA.

Vehicles/Parking - Use of motorized vehicles, including ATVs, is allowed on existing county roads and the main access road that loops within the WMA. Roads and skid trails not necessary for management purposes will remain closed to all but foot and horseback use. ATV use restrictions are posted and violators will be cited. Keeping vehicles on roadways protects the habitat and minimizes wildlife disturbance. Please park only in designated areas or turnouts on roadways.

Area Restrictions: - No areas are restricted to foot traffic within the WMA unless posted. Visitors are encouraged to be aware of the possibility of habitat damage and use good judgement. Unauthorized livestock grazing is prohibited in the WMA.

Hunting and Fishing - All hunting and fishing seasons and bag limits authorized by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission that are applicable to the surrounding area apply on the WMA.

Camping - Camping is allowed in St. Maries. Most campsites are primitive. Visitors are asked not to litter, vandalize fences or remove forest products without permission. The department will continue to monitor and cite violators.

Fires/Firewood Cutting: - All fires must be in campsites and must be attended at all times. Fires may be prohibited when fire danger is high. Signs will be posted if a fire closure is necessary. Firewood cutting is prohibited without permission. Check with WMA management personnel for details. Only deadfall may be gathered for campsite fires.

Wildlife Observation/Photography - All areas are open to wildlife observation and photography. Any temporarily closed areas will be posted.

Pets - Pets must be leashed or under close control at all times on St. Maries WMA, with the exception of bird dogs, where permitted, during hunting seasons. Horses should be tethered or enclosed when not being ridden and must be always be under close control.
