Visiting Sterling WMA

Access for the Disabled - Access within the WMA varies by area. Visitors with special access needs are encouraged to contact the area manager about which areas might be most suitable for persons with disabilities. In all cases, it’s recommended that visitors assess their own abilities before entering the WMA. An observation blind for persons with disabilities is located on the Johnson Segment and is available for hunting. For information, contact the Southeast Region office (208) 232-4703.

Vehicles/Parking - Use of motorized vehicles is restricted over most of the area, but county roads and designated parking areas provide good walking access to most parcels.

Hunting - Hunting is allowed on the area according to general and specific area rules. Please consult current hunting regulations. General season trapping is allowed on the area.

Camping - No overnight camping is permitted on the WMA. Public camping facilities are available at Sportsman’s Park on American Falls Reservoir east of Aberdeen.

Wildlife Observation/Photography - There are good opportunities for observing wildlife throughout the area but especially near the wetlands during the spring, summer, and early fall. An observation blind for persons with disabilities is located on the Johnson Segment.

Pets - Dogs must be kept on a leash or under close control at all times except for bird dogs during hunting seasons. The release or abandonment of domestic animals is prohibited.
