General Information
Sterling Wildlife Management Area (WMA) was established to provide habitat for a variety of wildlife but particularly for waterfowl production. Production of ring-necked pheasants and providing public access for hunting and wildlife appreciation are also priorities.
The WMA was created in 1968 when the American Game Association of New York donated 121 acres of marsh to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Since then, the Department has cooperated with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) in the acquisition and administration of additional property. The WMA now includes 3,300 acres, part of which was purchased by the BOR as authorized by the American Falls Dam Replacement Act.
