How To Get There
Niagara Springs WMA is located just south of the town of Wendell in southcentral Idaho’s Gooding County. To reach Niagara Springs WMA, take Interstate 84 to exit 157 (Wendell) and travel seven miles south. As you approach the WMA, the striking lava rock rim of the Snake River Canyon will loom into view. After a sharp left turn, the road descends to the canyon bottom and the WMA entrance.
General Information
Nestled between the Snake River and the high lava rock canyon rim above lies a small, but significant, portion of land, originally set aside to provide secure habitat for wintering waterfowl. The first step toward this security occurred in 1971 when the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) obtained eight scattered islands in the Snake River from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The following year, IDFG personnel used Bureau of Outdoor Recreation funds to purchase the Niagara Springs Ranch, and today, Niagara Springs Wildlife Management Area (WMA) totals 957 acres. Management practices center around waterfowl nesting, feeding and wintering habitat preservation and development.
