Wildlife on the WMA is a rich mix of species that typically inhabit the southeast Idaho mountain areas. Mule deer are plentiful and a typical wintering herd size is 350-450 animals. The watchful visitor to the WMA will see not only deer, but also coyotes, bobcats, badger, mink, cottontail rabbit, blacktailed jackrabbit, chipmunks and many others. Over 20 species of mammals inhabit Montpelier WMA.

Birdwatchers visiting the WMA will find a diverse population of upland game birds and nongame birds providing hours of viewing and photography opportunities. Documented sightings include at least 55 different species of birds. These include three types of grouse, golden eagles, various hawks, great horned owls, turkey vultures, many different songbirds, two hummingbird species and of course, the ever present magpie and crow.
