Public Use of Montour WMA

Public Use
Game bird hunting, wildlife viewing, fishing and camping are just some of the recreational activities enjoyed by visitors to Montour WRA.

Bird hunting is permitted over the entire area, with the exception of safety zones established around the developed campground and historic Montour townsite. The mix of agricultural lands and dense riparian cover provide excellent hunting for ring-necked pheasants, gray partridge, and California quail. The shallow water impoundments, irrigation drains, and Payette River offers waterfowl hunting throughout the season. Natural pheasant populations are supplemented with the release of game farm pheasants after opening day of hunting season.

Long range plans call for the development of a warm water fishery for bluegills and largemouth bass in ponds within the WRA. Rainbow trout and whitefish can be caught in the Payette River.

Montour WRA offers nongame enthusiasts an excellent opportunity to view a wide range of migratory and resident birds. A spotting scope or binoculars is all that’s needed to view waterfowl and shorebirds around the valley.
