McArthur Lake WMA Information

How To Get There
Traveling north from Sandpoint, you will go about 18 miles to the WMA Headquarters sign and turn left into the parking area. Traveling south from Bonners Ferry, you will go 13 miles south to the WMA Headquarters sign and turn right into the parking area. About 2/3 of a mile north of headquarters, County road 4A will take you to the dam, restrooms and parking areas.

General Information
The McArthur Lake WMA is adjacent to US Highway 95, approximately 18 miles north of Sandpoint, Idaho and 13 miles south of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. There are about 1,207 acres in the WMA of which approximately 600 is McArthur Lake Reservoir. The majority of the WMA is in Boundary County and the remainder is in Bonner County. The nearest cities are Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry.

McArthur Lake WMA was one of Idaho’s first land purchases using Pittman-Robertson funding. The WMA was acquired to provide waterfowl breeding, nesting and summer-fall use areas to replace marshlands converted to farmland in the nearby Kootenai River Valley. An important aspect of the WMA is providing the public with opportunities for waterfowl and big game hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing and assuring that the public will be able to enjoy these activities for generations to come.
