Visiting Hours – Gem State WHA is open year-round. No formal visiting hours have been established. Those interested in visiting the WHA should be aware that development within the WMA is primitive and will likely remain that way in order to protect wildlife and habitat. Access for the Disabled – For persons with disabilities, access within Gem State WHA may be difficult. No accommodations for visitors with special needs have been made. Physically challenged visitors are encouraged to contact WHA management personnel to determine which areas are most suitable. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering Gem State WHA. Vehicles/Parking – Use of motorized vehicles, including ATVs, is permitted only on the access road to the WHA. Two parking areas are provided and visitors are asked to use them. Only non-motorized access is allowed beyond those points. These restrictions help to protect habitat and minimize wildlife disturbance. Area Restrictions –Currently no areas of the WHA are restricted to foot traffic. When nesting areas need seasonal restrictions they will be posted. Visitors are asked to avoid posted areas and use good judgment in walking through the WHA so that damage to habitat will be minimal. Wildlife Observation/Photography – All areas of Gem State WHA are open to wildlife observation unless posted. Walking trails where they exist are poorly maintained in order to reduce impact to the habitat and reduce wildlife disturbance. Hunting/Fishing/Trapping – Hunting, fishing and trapping are allowed within Gem State WHA. Generally all seasons and bag limits authorized by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission that apply to the surrounding area apply on the WHA.
