Visiting Craig Mountain WMA
Visiting Hours - Craig Mountain WMA is open to the public year-round. No formal visiting hours have been established. Contact WMA management personnel for current conditions.
Access for the Disabled - Access within the WMA varies by the area. Visitors with special access needs are encouraged to contact the area managers about which area might be most suitable for physically challenged individuals. The WMA has three designated disabled access routes. These provide access for disabled hunters during hunting seasons. They are subject to closure due to weather such as excessive snow or muddy conditions. Anyone interested in disabled access should check with the regional fish and game office. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area.
Vehicles/Parking - Use of motorized vehicles, including ATVs, is permitted ONLY on designated roads shown on the WMA map unless otherwise marked. Please park only in designated parking areas and locations that will permit unrestricted traffic flow.
Area Restrictions - Certain areas and trails that are open most of the year may be closed to access during critical wintering seasons. These restrictions are applied to protect elk and deer winter range. Contact WMA management personnel for details.
Wildlife Observation/Photography - The WMA offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. The entire WMA is open to non-motorized travel year-round and hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and cross-country skiers are welcome to traverse all the interior roads otherwise closed to motorized vehicles.
Safety Zones - The areas immediately surrounding any departmental administrative site within the WMA is closed to shooting. Discharging a firearm in and around these areas, where staff and visitors are likely to be, is prohibited for safety purposes.
Hunting/Fishing - Both hunting and fishing are allowed on the WMA. However, because special seasons and regulations may apply from year to year, it is important to consult current hunting and fishing regulations prior to participating in these activities. These regulations are available at Idaho Fish and Game licensed vendors and department offices.
Camping and Campfires - Camping is allowed on most areas of the WMA. However, you must provide your own water source and must practice low impact camping by removal of all trash. All fires must be attended and may be prohibited when fire danger is high. Signs will be posted if a fire closure is necessary.
Pets/Livestock - Pets must be kept on a leash or under close control at all times except for hunting dogs during designated hunting season. The release or abandonment of domestic animals on Craig Mountain WMA is prohibited.
Weed-Free Hay - All animal feed brought onto the Craig Mountain WMA must be certified weed-free. Straw or mulch should also be weed-free. Livestock should be fed on weed-free feed for at least 96 hours before being brought onto Craig Mountain WMA. Noxious weeds can destroy habitat and forage, reducing the quality of wildlife, recreation and hunting.
