Visiting Hours – Coeur d’Alene River Wildlife Management Area is open year-round and has no established visiting hours. Access sites are generally open 24 hours daily and no fees are required. Schools and other groups are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel for guided tour information.
Access for the Disabled – For persons with disabilities, access within Coeur d’Alene River WMA varies by area. Most restrooms within the WMA are handicapped accessible. Visitors with special needs are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel to determine which areas are most suitable for physically challenged visitors. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering Coeur d’Alene River WMA.
Vehicles/Parking – Use of motorized vehicles is permitted on established roadways. These restrictions protect area vegetation and minimize wildlife disturbance. Please park only in designated areas.
Area Restrictions – There are two permanent road closures to vehicles posted and one administrative road is closed to the public from January 15 to May 15. Please watch for posted closure signs.
Wildlife Observation/Photography – The entire WMA provides ample observation and photo opportunities all year long and specially significant viewing during the fall waterfowl migration. Visitors are encouraged to use access roads and trails for wildlife viewing and photography purposes. Please observe any nesting area closure signs and contact WMA management personnel for seasonal restrictions.
Hunting/Fishing/Trapping – All hunting, fishing and trapping seasons and bag limits authorized by the Idaho Fish and Game commission that are applicable to the surrounding area and units apply on Coeur d’Alene River WMA. This WMA has been designated a steel-shot zone for all bird and fowl species hunted. Please contact WMA personnel for any additional restrictions.
Boating – Public boat ramps are located throughout the WMA. Boaters are encouraged to reduce wakes from powerboats and jet skis to reduce riverbank erosion.
Camping – Camping in Coeur d’Alene River WMA is allowed for up to 10 days in any 30 day period. Camping at Bull Run Lake is allowed for only 3 days in any 30 day period. Litter regulations are strictly enforced and violation may result in citation.
Fires/Firewood Cutting – Fires are permitted in designated camping areas only and must be attended at all times. Fires may be prohibited when fire danger is high. Signs will be posted if a fire closure is necessary. Firewood cutting is prohibited on the WMA with the exception that deadfall may be gathered for campfires in camping areas on the WMA.
Pets – Pets must be leashed or under close control at all times on Coeur d’Alene River WMA, with the exception of bird dogs, where permitted, during hunting seasons. The release or abandonment of domestic animals on the WMA is prohibited at all times.
