Public Use of Cartier Slough WMA
Swans on water in distance. |
A trail starting at Beaver Dick Park allows the visitor to see the diversity of habitat and wildlife that make up the WMA. Those visitors who hike along the trail will discover how good management of the habitat benefits us all. Trails throughout the WMA are provided for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Please use good judgement and protect our wildlife and habitat by not littering or damaging the habitat.
Photography and viewing areas will bring pleasure to even the most seasoned bird watcher. During spring and fall migrating trumpeter swans can be seen and photographed. During the nesting season you will find abundant Canada geese and a great variety of nesting ducks. A short trail from the west end parking area, across the footbridge and along the dike, provides an excellent opportunity to observe duck broods and other wetland wildlife. The trails throughout the WMA will provide you with hours of enjoyment as you hike through the WMA looking for just that perfect photo opportunity.
Those who visit the WMA to hunt can spend many pleasurable hours on the WMA, whether its big game hunting, upland bird hunting or waterfowl hunting. Currently waterfowl hunting is the second highest use of the WMA.
