Visiting Hours – Carey Lake Wildlife Management Area is open year-round. No specific visiting hours have been established. Schools and other groups are encouraged to visit Carey Lake WMA in during spring migration when waterfowl numbers are high. Those interested in a guided tour of the WMA should contact IDFG personnel well in advance of the proposed trip date. IDFG personnel will make every effort to make your trip memorable.
Access for the Disabled – For persons with disabilities, access within Carey Lake WMA varies by area. Visitors will find an ADA equipped restroom in the parking area on the north side of the lake. Visitors who have special needs are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel to determine which areas are most suitable for physically challenged visitors. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering Carey Lake WMA.
Vehicles/Parking – Use of motorized vehicles of all kinds is restricted to existing roadways and parking areas. Only non-motorized traffic is allowed within the WMA. Please park in the designated areas.
Area Restrictions – No areas of Carey Lake WMA are restricted for foot traffic except during nesting seasons. Restrictions during these times will be posted and the visitor is asked to observe the restrictions in order that nesting waterfowl may not be distressed. WMA management personnel encourage the public be aware of the possibility of habitat damage and use good judgement when visiting the WMA.
Wildlife Observation/Photography – All areas of the WMA are open to wildlife viewing and photography unless posted during nesting seasons. Visitors are asked to use good judgement when hiking through Carey Lake WMA and disturb habitat and wildlife as little as possible.
Hunting/Fishing/Trapping – Hunting, fishing and trapping are allowed on Carey Lake WMA. Generally all hunting, fishing and trapping seasons and bag limits authorized by the Idaho Fish and Game Commission that are applicable to the surrounding area apply on the WMA. Trappers must register with WMA personnel and must possess a valid permit. Consult current regulations for specific restrictions and exceptions.
Boating – Use of fishing boats without motors or with electric motors only is permissible on Carey Lake. A boat ramp is provided at the north side parking area.
Camping – No provision for camping has been made at Carey Lake WMA.
Fires – No fires are permitted on the WMA.
Pets – Pets must be leashed or under close control at all times on Carey Lake WMA, with the exception of bird dogs, where permitted, during hunting season. The release or abandonment of domestic animals on Carey Lake WMA is prohibited at all times.
