Visiting Cecil D Andrus WMA

Headquarters and Visiting Hours: Cecil D. Andrus WMA Headquarters is located at mile marker 9 on State Highway 71. The WMA is open year-round with no regular visiting hours. Office hours for gate key check-out at the WMA headquarters are established each year relative to hunting seasons. Call the WMA Headquarters for annual office hours.

Access: The Cecil D. Andrus WMA is open to foot and other forms of non-motorized travel year-round. WMA roads are open to motorized vehicle use from May 1 through December 31 each year.

Access for the Disabled: For persons with disabilities, access within the Cecil D. Andrus WMA is extremely limited. Visitors with special needs are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel to determine which area(s) are most suitable for physically challenged visitors. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering the Cecil D. Andrus WMA.

Vehicles and Parking: Use of motorized vehicles including ATVs, is permitted only on designated roadways. Access gates require a key that visitors can check out at the WMA headquarters. The map in this brochure shows designated routes, but visitors are encouraged to consult with WMA management personnel for changes or temporary closures during wet weather. Please do not block access gates when parking.

Area Restrictions: The entire WMA is closed to all motorized vehicles, including ATVs, from January 1 through April 30 each year to protect wintering big game. Access roads open to motorized vehicles the rest of the year require a key for entry. These keys are available at the WMA headquarters and are limited in number. Controlled access maintains low-density motorized use of the WMA and protects wildlife and habitat so that the quality of the WMA remains high for all users and future generations of visitors.

Hunting, Fishing and Trapping: Public hunting, fishing and trapping are allowed on the Cecil D. Andrus WMA. There is a year-round no shooting safety zone around the WMA Headquarters and other facilities. Trappers must check in with WMA management personnel prior to trapping activities.

Wildlife Observation and Photography: All areas of the WMA are open to wildlife observation and photography throughout the entire year. Visitors are encouraged to use good judgement and avoid causing stress to wildlife.

Camping: No overnight camping or parking is allowed behind any of the access gates on the WMA. Those visitors desiring to camp should make use of Idaho Power’s Woodhead or McCormick Parks or the USFS Brownlee Guard Station Campgrounds near the WMA.

Fires and Firewood Cutting: Fires and firewood cutting are prohibited on Cecil D. Andrus WMA.

Pets: Pets must be leashed or under close control at all times on Cecil D. Andrus WMA, with the exception of hunting dogs during hunting seasons.
