How To Get There
Fort Boise WMA is located just west of Parma in southwest Idaho’s Canyon County. To reach Fort Boise WMA, take Interstate 84 to exit 26 (Notus-Parma) and travel through Parma on State Highway 20-26. General Information
Following construction of Brownlee Dam on the Snake River in the late 1950s, the rising waters of Brownlee Reservoir permanently flooded critical goose nesting islands within the Snake River channel. In 1959, Idaho Power Company began the process of compensating for this habitat loss by purchasing 331-acre Gold Island, at the confluence of the Snake, Boise and Owyhee Rivers. In 1962, this property, and adjacent lands purchased by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG), became known as Fort Boise Wildlife Management Area (WMA). In years since, the WMA has grown by more than 1,300 acres, using sportsmen’s dollars derived from both state hunting and fishing license sales and federal excise taxes from the sale of firearms and ammunition.
Providing quality waterfowl and upland bird nesting habitat is the primary management goal at Fort Boise. The WMA also provides public hunting, fishing and wildlife appreciation opportunities.
