National Range of Indicators and Northwest Regional Indicators

The National Indicator represents the range of Regional Indicators across the entire distribution of the species. The Regional Indicator is the likelihood that a species occurs in wetland habitat versus non-wetland habitat in the region. The indicator categories are defined in National List of Plant Species that Occur in Wetlands:1988 National Summary.

Indicator Categories Code Definition
Obligate Wetland OBL Almost always occur under natural conditions in wetlands (estimated probability >99%).
Facultative Wetland FACW Usually occur in wetlands, but occasionally found in non-wetlands (estimated probability 67% - 99%).
Facultative FAC Equally likely to occur in wetlands and non-wetlands (estimated probability 34% - 66%).
Facultative Upland FACU Usually occur in non-wetlands, but occasionally found in wetlands (estimated probability 1% - 33%).
Obligate Upland UPL Occur in wetlands in another region, but occur almost always (estimated probability >99%) under natural conditions in nonwetlands in the region specified. If a species does not occur in any wetlands in any region, it is not on the National List.
No Indicator NI Species which insufficient information is available to determine an indicator status.
Nonoccurrence NO Species does not occur in that region.
Modifier * Indicates tentative assignments based on limited information.
+ Indicates a probability toward the higher end of the category.
- Indicates a probability toward the lower end of the category.
