Check Stations Serve Law, Science

Fall is here, hunting season has opened and conservation officers and wildlife biologists are seeing the results of their enforcement and management efforts.

Enforcement check stations have a two-fold purpose: to gather information from hunters that helps Idaho Fish and Game evaluate the experience they are having this year, and to serve as a deterrent and as a sort of hotline for hunters who have witnessed violations.

Wildlife managers also take advantage of enforcement check stations to assess the body condition and the age of animals coming in and measure the success rate of hunters.
