Volunteering
Every year as many as 5,000 volunteers give up their own time to help improve habitat for Idaho wildlife. Much of that time is spent on projects that improve habitat for mule deer. Volunteers traverse miles of Idaho habitat planting bitter brush and sagebrush to provide food and cover for mule deer and other animals. Others work to eradicate invasive weeds that threaten to choke out plants that are beneficial to mule deer. It is hard work and it is important. People who give up their own time to improve habitat for mule deer and other species are rewarded with the knowledge that they are perpetuating an important legacy for future generations. The job is never done, and you can help.
Private landowners also play a vital role in preserving and improving wildlife habitat in Idaho. With funding from the Conservation Reserve Program and other state and federal programs, Idaho landowners can make a huge difference in the effort to strengthen our mule deer herds.
Communication
The information you're looking at right now is just part of a concerted effort by Fish and Game to let Idahoans know how the Department is working to provide Mule Deer for the Future. Through printed publications, television and radio news releases, and right here on the web we will provide information about mule deer populations, harvest information and conservation projects. We will provide information on how Idahoans can volunteer to help mule deer habitat. We will let you know where access to mule deer hunting is being opened, while recognizing private landowners who are participating in the Access Yes! and the Mule Deer Initiative.
This communication process will always be a two way street. We ask that you participate in the process, and let us know what you're thinking. If you have questions, ask them. If you have concerns express them. Most of all, if you have ideas to ensure the legacy of mule deer in Idaho continues for many generations share them. Together we can provide Mule Deer for the Future.
