Anyone interested is invited to attend the Ninth Mountain Lion Workshop, on May 5-8, 2008, in Sun Valley, Idaho, hosted by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
The theme for the 2008 workshop is: “Cougars: Past, Present and Future Challenges”
The 2008 Mountain Lion Workshop will celebrate the rich history of cougar research with origins in Idaho’s Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. The workshop will also provide a forum for researchers, managers, academicians and other mountain lion enthusiasts from across western North America to exchange recent advances in research and management. This workshop will promote communication and cooperation between and among agencies, organizations and individuals.
Location
The workshop will be at the Sun Valley Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho. Sun Valley is one of the premier resorts in the United States. Sun Valley rooms can be reserved by calling 1-800-786-8259 and mentioning the Mountain Lion Workshop. Room rates are $105-$125 for single and double occupancy standard to deluxe rooms. The resort also has 2- and 3-bedroom condos available if you wish to share expenses.
Agenda
The tentative agenda is:
- Monday, May 5, Evening registration and social.
- Tuesday, May 6, Registration, opening comments, speakers and technical sessions.
- Wednesday, May 7, Technical sessions, and evening banquet keynote speaker – Dr. Maurice Hornocker.
- Thursday, May 8, Technical session in morning. Afternoon birding/waterfowl field trip to Camas Prairie.
- Friday, May 9, Field tour of Sawtooth wolf area and wolf management discussions.
Travel
Sun Valley is serviced by a regional airport in Hailey. The resort runs a shuttle from the airport. Workshop participants can also fly into Boise or Twin Falls. From there you can rent a car for a very scenic drive to Sun Valley. Sun Valley Lodge and resort are within walking distance to downtown Ketchum.
Activities in the area include endless opportunities and locations to go hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, golfing, horseback riding, mountain biking, white water rafting or land your first 18-inch Rainbow on the Big Wood River. Sun Valley and nearby Ketchum include an eclectic variety of shops and restaurants.
