Weekly Fishing ReportUpdated: July 2, 2009This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers. Summer has finally arrived in the Southeast Region. The cold wet June has maintained favorable water temperatures to keep trout biting but has warmed enough to kick off the warmwater fishing. In short, fishing is peaking for both cold and warmwater fish. Folks are reporting good bluegill fishing in Franklin County reservoirs. American Falls Reservoir remains at full pool and very nice trout continue to be harvested. Fishing is great in reservoirs, such as Twin Lakes, Condie, Johnson, Lamont, and Glendale, where abundant bluegill populations make for good fishing during their spring spawning period. Catch rates are reported good on Chesterfield Reservoir. Despite the slow start, Daniels Reservoir is gin-clear, and anglers report midges are working. Rising fish have been spotted on Hawkins Reservoir, and fishing is good in Springfield Reservoir, where red zebra midges seem to be working well, and in Devil Creek Reservoir. The Snake River below American Falls Dam is open. The Snake River is near flood stage with some boat ramp closures – avoid fishing the river from a boat until flows subside. The Snake River is running high. The upper Portneuf River is running high and clear, in the middle section it’s murky with runoff and the lower part is low and clear. Fishing in the Bear River is spotty. The river in Black Canyon has returned to normal flow and the fishing has improved. Anglers report pale morning duns working. Folks traveling to Idaho to fish should make sure their boats are free of aquatic nuisance species. They also will need an Idaho Invasive Species Fund sticker from Idaho Parks and Recreation – $10 for motorized boats registered in Idaho, $20 for out-of-state boats and $5 for nonmotorized boats. (Inflatable, nonmotorized boats less than 10 feet long are exempt.) |
