Ashton Hatchery was originally constructed in 1920 and is funded by license dollars and Utah Power mitigation. It is located 1 mile south and 1 mile west of Ashton, Idaho. There are signs on US Highway 20 directing you to the hatchery. Turn West off highway 20 onto 1200 N. and go 1 mile to the hatchery entrance.

Site Overview
Ashton Hatchery receives it's water from Black Springs with an average flow of 5.5 cubic feet per second and a temperature of 50 degrees F.

Ashton Hatchery has 8 outdoor raceways for fingerling and 4 for catchable trout production. Inside the hatchery building is an incubator room and 21 vats for fry and fingerling production. Last year Ashton Hatchdery produced over 285,000 fish, both fingerling and catchable size, weighing a total of almost 51,000 pounds.

Visitors
Over 1,000 people visited Ashton Hatchery last year, including over 500 school students. The hatchery is open to visitors whenever staff is on duty, typically 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Visitors can view fish in the outdoor production raceways. Ashton Hatchery also has a "viewing" pond where visitors can see and feed fish weighing up to 10 pounds. Group tours are available by appointment.

Species Production
Ashton Hatchery produces rainbow trout, both as fingerling and catchable sized fish, and cutthroat fingerling for stocking in the Upper Snake Region. The hatchery also produces arctic grayling fry for stocking into mountain lakes statewide.
