Summer/Fall 2008
- What: Red River Habitat Planting
- When: Friday, September 12 / Sunday, September 14.
- Where: Red River WMA.
- Logistics: Transportation will be provided from Lewiston Regional office to Red River WMA. We will meet at 4:00 pm at the regional office on Friday. We will travel to Red River WMA on Friday evening. It is approx. a 3 hour drive from Lewiston. We will spend the night on Friday and will plant all day on Saturday with an optional tour of the Red River area on Saturday night given by Habitat Biologist, Miles Benker. We will plant half a day on Sunday, have lunch and will leave for Lewiston following lunch on Sunday. We will be planting riparian plant species along Red River such as willow, black hawthorne, mountain alder, and quaking aspen. The planting site is not too far from the ranch house where we will staying. We will either be walking from the ranch house or taking four wheelers to the planting sites.
Please bring: Sleeping bag, pillow, personal gear, rain gear, warm clothes (it will get cool during the evenings), swim suit (hot springs nearby) good boots, water bottle, camera, binoculars, sunscreen, etc. We will provide: Planting tools, meals, most of the drinks, transportation from Lewiston to/from Red River.
- # Volunteers: 8-10.
- What: Youth Pheasant Clinic
- When: Saturday, September 27 - 8:00 am-4:00 pm.
- Where: Troy/Deary Gun Club.
- Logistics: Come to the gun club at 8:00am to help assist with setting up and facilitating the clinic. Please bring: Weather appropriate clothing, knowledge of pheasants, water, etc. Provided: Youth shotguns, ammunition, lunch, drinks, etc.
- # Volunteers: 5-10.
- What: Adopt-A-Cabin Program
- Specifics: Looking for volunteers to adopt one of the 7 cabins on Craig Mountain & travel 1-2 times a year for cabin maintenance, stocking supplies, check water supply, etc.
- When: Any time.
- Where: Cabins on Craig Mountain.
- Logistics: Maintenance will include: Cut, split & stock firewood. Stock other cabin supplies such as food. Check & clean water supply. Fire prevention maintenance.
- # Volunteers: As many as possible.
- What: Adoption Program
- Specifics: Whether it be a cabin on Craig Mountain or a recreation access, you or your group can adopt a site to care for on your own time.
- When: Anytime.
- Where: Any of the lowland lake & reservoir sites, fishing access sites, and WMA roadways & trails in the Clearwater region.
- Logistics: Most sites will need a visit once or twice a year. Duties will include basic maintenance such as; trash clean-up, and other small projects as needed. Maps & directions will be available if needed.
