Upper Snake Region Fishing Information

Weekly Fishing Report

Updated: November 4, 2009

This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers.

Fishing throughout the region will likely improve as the days warm over the coming week.

South Fork Snake River: Cool weather has slowed fishing slightly and the river level has dropped to its winter flow rate. This means there are plenty of places to access the South Fork, which is still producing for trout for anglers willing to brave the cold weather and wind. Try the standard streamer fishing for the best action. The blue wing olive hatches are steady too.

Henrys Fork Snake River: The Henrys Fork is still producing trout, but catch has slowed here as well. For the best action, try the lower areas of river where brown trout are more common.

Main Stem Snake River: For an overlooked area to fish, head to the main Snake River around Roberts. Although trout densities are low here, some truly large fish can be found. Fall may be the best time to catch these trout in a feeding mode. Spinners, jigs and streamers are likely to be the most productive pattern.

Palisades Reservoir: Anglers are having luck fishing along the reservoir shoreline - especially eight to ten feet out. Try spinners, bait or even a streamer if you like to fly fish.
