Description: Wilson Ponds are a good birding area within the city of Nampa, near the regional office of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. During winter, 15 species of waterfowl can be seen, including Gadwall, Ring-necked Duck, and Lesser Scaup. Spring finds migrating songbirds (Wilson’s Warbler, Lazuli Bunting, Western Tanager, Hermit Thrush) and shorebirds (American Avocet, Black-necked Stilt, Long-billed Dowitcher) utilizing the ponds as a stop-over location. In spring, look for Northern Flicker, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Summer nesting birds include Pied-billed Grebe, American Coot, Virginia Rail, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Belted Kingfisher, Marsh Wren, and Yellow Warbler. During fall migration, Green-winged and Cinnamon Teal, and Wood Duck can usually be found. In spring, look for Northern Flicker, Cedar Waxwing, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
